julie Anderson Iyengar YogaJulie Teaches Iyengar Yoga At The View Studio

Julie is particularly fond of asana work (yoga poses), both as a student and as a teacher: she continues to find the body an amazing instrument in that there is always some new movement or action waiting to be discovered while practicing the postures. As a teacher she has prioritised regular trips to India to learn first-hand with the Iyengars, which also gives her the opportunity to absorb the wider culture more fully too.

Fully trained and accredited as both an Introductory and Intermediate Iyengar teacher with Therapy Training too, Julie is currently part way through the Senior Teacher Training programme.

1. What do you teach at The View Studio?

iyoga which promotes a style of hatha yoga known as Iyengar Yoga favouring careful alignment and extension of the body while holding postures.

2. What made you choose to teach Iyengar Yoga?

There is no single factor:
After many years of practice, a lack of iyoga in the Scottish Borders where I used to live and an opportunity to change career direction after having children training as an Iyengar Yoga teacher seemed the perfect way to share both my passion for yoga and what I have learned through my own teachers and practice.

3. What is your favourite posture/ exercise?

I love it all so this is tricky to answer. I am tempted to say back bends but will choose the father of all poses – sirsasana or head balance. Having reached the stage of finding it a soothing pose and of course it has many variations to play with.

4. Describe yourself in 3 words

This is tricky: cheery, kind, enthusiastic!

5. Your top tip for our View Studio clients to add movement into their day?

Practice downward facing dog pose with or without support and enjoy 🙂
