5 Wonderful Reasons To Go Outdoors

If you need a bit of encouragement to exercise away from the studio, then here are 5 wonderful reasons to go outdoors – and once you’ve read them, you might want to sign up for the Boot Camp which starts next week. Exercising with like-minded people is really good fun, and a great motivator too!

Here are 5 wonderful reasons to go outside:

1. It’s a Vitamin D booster.
In Scotland the lack of sun seriously does limit our intake of this “sunshine vitamin”. Vitamin D is essential for maintaining the amount of phosphate and calcium we have in our bodies. These nutrients are essential for keeping our bones and teeth healthy. Just a few minutes in the sun alongside a healthy balanced diet is a good way to get Vitamin D.

2. It can enhance your regular workout.
How much do you enjoy eating al fresco? Well, taking your workout outside can be just as enjoyable making it feel more like playtime. The freedom of having extra space when moving outside can bring joy to your workout and perhaps even help to commitment to fitness.

3. It lifts the spirits.
Just 5 minutes of walking or exercising outside can make you feel happy and more relaxed. The effect of the fresh air and green space boosts oxygen, which then encourages the production of serotonin. Whatever the cause, you are always guaranteed to blow the cobwebs away.

4. It can improve your sleep.
Sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day away from natural light can wreak havoc with the internal clock and disrupt sleep patterns. Exposuring yourself to sunlight for at least 5 minutes a day just helps to re-boot your sleep, leading to a deeper snooze.

5. It increases mindfulness.
Just taking the time on a walk or being outside to really enjoy the colour of the blue sky, or how green the grass is, brings us into the present moment and helps to promote mindfulness.

You brain and body will certainly thank you if you spend even 10 minutes a day outside. It doesn’t need to be an all-day even, just something simple like a stroll around the park in your lunch hour, eating lunch outdoors, or walking to or from work.

Join us for our bootcamp/ retreat next week – 13th-16th July where you will definitely get to include at least 1 hour of working outside into your day, either before work or after work.
